The META Project - Mentoring, Equipping and Training Africans, is led by the Petrelli Family, who have lived in Africa since 2010, serving as AIM missionaries, originally from Brazil.
It is estimated that 90% of pastors in remote areas in Africa do not have basic biblical theological education or pastoral training.
Most of these pastors need to work secularly to feed their families. Pastors usually serve multiple churches and communities, and many of them do not know how to read or write.
As a result, false doctrines and syncretic expressions of the Christian faith are rampant throughout Africa. Although there are some biblical seminaries in the large cities and capitals, these institutions do not keep up with the rapid growth of the church and the great urgency for discipleship and formation of leaders.
At the current rate, 42% of the world's Christians will live in Africa by 2060. Through the META project, we have sought to respond to the desperate need for spiritual formation and biblical foundations accessible to the African context.
