Chip and Becky Carter - Short Term

Becky travels quite a lot throughout the year, helping out with Africa Inland Mission kids’ programs at the mission’s U.S. headquarters in Peachtree City, Georgia, as well as in Kenya, East Africa, where she is the elementary program director for the mission’s Africa Based Orientation program. These month-long “ABO’s” are held 2-3 times a year.

The overarching goal is to prepare each child with the skills, confidence, resilience, and dependence on the Lord to successfully enter their new life in Africa. We focus on these concepts:

1. Identity in Christ: We want each child to have a strong sense of who they are in Christ.
2. Cultural awareness and ways to approach learning and living in a new context.
3. Tools to deal with the “big feelings” inherent with the major transitions they’re going through.
4. Bible literacy, memorization and developing (or reinforcing) daily time in the Word.
5. Swahili: Learning greetings and some basic conversational phrases.
6. FUN! We want the kids’ first exposure to Africa to be a positive experience, so we incorporate lots of crafts, games, camp-like activities, and silly songs throughout the days!
