June 5, 2019 - Northern Kenya updates:
We’ve received the following updates from AIM personnel and ministry partners regarding the current drought and famine across northern Kenya.
From Pastor David Gargule, Tirrim Schools, Korr: Thank you for your constant support to us. The rains have not yet come to Korr and the situation is very bad here. It is so dry and the water table has gone down considerably. Many shallow wells are drying up and the pressure on Tirrim school wells are so high. Just two days ago our high school borehole broke down. With our food for work program, we are repairing and clearing our airstrip and the numbers of people in need of food are increasing daily.
From Sol D, Karabara: We started a food for work program in Hurri Hills this week and it would be very helpful if we could have funds to finish all the work we have ahead of us and for when drought season comes. Recently in our part of northern Kenya, have gotten some good rain, but it’s still not enough to fill the water catchments. We are praying for God’s provision and for those who are supporting this program.
From Eddie Andersen, Dukana: Here in Dukana famine is still a big issue as well as in Illeret. We also have a refugee crisis from the Borana Gabbra conflict. There are so many people fleeing conflict and stuck in desolate areas. The rain has been patchy but not widespread, so drought is still a big issue with villages all over crying for help.
